A meeting between Israeli and Syrian armistice negotiators took place today in “no-man’s land ” near Mahanayim with the regular delegations of both sides participating in the talks and with Col. Moshe Dayan, Jerusalem area commander of the Israeli Army, serving as an observer.
Also participating in today’s parleys ware Brig. Gen. William Riley and Henri Vigier, of the mediator’s staff, who flow to Mahahayim from Damascus. Discussions were reportedly on a “general basis” and no details were divulged. The next meeting was set for Tuesday.
The mixed armistice commission today agreed to permit Arabs from the Arab Legion-held triangle to harvest crops in Israel after assurance that the killer of two Israeli soldiers recently slain would be tried with United Nations representatives acting as observers.
