Israeli army troops began withdrawing from part of the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday night. Details were finalized at a meeting of senior Israeli and Palestinian security officials at the Erez crossing into the Gaza Strip earlier in the day. The two sides are expected to hold further discussions later in the week on the transfer of security responsibility to the Palestinians in the West Bank town of Bethlehem.
