Israeli author A.B. Yehoshua criticized “special interest groups” that he believes are threatening Israeli society. Yehoshua said he believed Israeli society faced threats from both the fervently Orthodox Shas Party and the Russian immigrant parties, according to a report Thursday on Israel Radio. His remarks were immediately condemned by a Knesset member from the Yisrael Ba’Aliyah Party, Roman Bronfman, who accused Yehoshua of trying to create a schism between Israel’s native-born citizens and Russian immigrants.
