Arab leaders from East Jerusalem met officially for the first time with a member of Israel’s Cabinet. They were received today by Minister of Police Shlomo Hillel at the Ministry and discussed the effects of terrorist activities on both Arabs and Jews. Mr. Hillel’s visitors were Sheikh Hilmi el Muhtasib chairman of the Moslem Council, Saad el Din el Alami, the Mufti of Jerusalem. Anwar Nuseibeh, the former Jordanian Defense Minister and Unwar el Khatib, the former Jordanian Governor of Jerusalem.
Sheikh Muhtasib’s son was killed by a terrorist grenade in Hebron recently. Mr. Hillel expressed condolences and the Sheikh replied that he was praying for an end of the killing in which Arabs and Jews alike lose their sons. The Police Minister said that security was a responsibility of Arab leaders no less than of the Israeli police.
