The Israeli Cabinet was today studying a request received this morning from acting U.N. Palestine mediator Dr. Ralph Bunche calling for the Israelis to withdraw from the positions they captured during the Negev fighting. Foreign Minister Moshe Shertok, who returned here from the Paris U.N. sessions last night, reported to the Cabinet on the present Palestine political situation at the United Nations.
Replying to correspondents’ questions concerning Bunche’s request, which was transmitted through U.N. liaison official Dr. Paul Mohm, an official Israeli spokesman asserted that the reply will not be forthcoming before tonight. The spokesman told newsmen that although the request for withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Negev may be considered, the Jews would “never” order such an evacuation.
