The British Minister in Tel Aviv today presented his country’s Distinguished Conduct Medal to Captain Joseph Pollack of the Israel Army for his courage during World War II.
In 1941, while serving as a private in a British unit, Pollack was captured in Greece and imprisoned on Corinth. He later succeeded in escaping and joined a group of British officers who helped other prisoners of war escape. Entering Rome with British troops in 1944, Pollack prevented the sabotage of several vital points.
