Two wings of the split Israeli Communist party called off last night the separate conventions they had planned and instead held “public rallies.” The plans for the separate conclaves were canceled through last-minute intervention by foreign Communist Party delegations invited to Israel to attend what originally was to have been the regular convention of the Israeli Communists. The Russian delegation was particularly active in obtaining the cancellations. New party elections will now be held without the customary pre-election convention.
