Israeli Defense Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer denied that U.S. pressure caused Israel to postpone a planned incursion into the Palestinian village of Beit Jalla. “No one pressured me, not the Americans, not the foreign minister,” Ben-Eliezer told Israel Radio, adding that he delayed an attack after receiving intelligence information that Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat was making efforts to halt the shooting from Beit Jalla on the Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo.
