A spokesman for the Israeli delegation at the United Nations today issued the following statement:

“The statement of the British Foreign Office spokesman that the British intend to ban the emigration of Jews from Cyprus is a new and grave disclosure of the United Kingdom’s intention to violate the cease-fire resolution of the United Nations Security Council and to continue to aid her Arab allies at the expense of Jews.

The original United Kingdom cease-fire proposal attempted to ban the immigration of men of military age. This was rejected by the Security Council. The final cease-fire resolution expressly provides that man of military age may be admitted providing that they are not trained or mobilized for military action during the period of the cease-fire. This violation of the cease-fire resolution by one of the major powers is a serious blow to the prospects of peace.”
