Israeli Education Minister Yitzhak Levy defended the decision to award this year’s Israel Prize for Literature to writer Amos Oz. Levy rejected a call by Knesset member Zvi Handel, a member of the National Religious Party, to revoke the honor because of an article Oz had written criticizing Jewish settlers. Levy said that while he disagreed with Oz’s views, this did not justify rescinding the prize.
