Israeli Finance Minister Ya’acov Ne’eman discussed his proposal to phase out American economic aid to Israel during a meeting with the U.S. assistant secretary of state for Middle Eastern affairs, Martin Indyk. Ne’eman’s proposal calls for the $1.2 billion in annual civilian aid to be cut during a 10-year period, with half of it transferred to U.S. military aid, which currently totals $1.8 billion annually. Their talks came as Indyk, along with U.S. Middle East envoy Dennis Ross, continued their discussions with Israeli and Palestinian officials in an effort to advance the peace process.
