Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami reportedly told U.S. Jewish leaders in a conference call that Israel is willing to recognize the Palestinians’ de facto control over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Ben-Ami stressed that an accord also would have to recognize the Jewish people’s special link to the site.
