The Israeli freighter. S.S, Athlit, passed through the Tiran Strait at the mouth of the Gulf of Akaba this morning and was scheduled to arrive at Elath this afternoon with a cargo of oil seeds, hides and similar materials. It was the second transit of the waterway by the Athlit.
The S.S. Martha, a 500-ton vessel chartered by Israel, was due to arrive at Elath tomorrow on the same route, carrying 700 tons of oil seeds from Massawa in Eritrea. The Martha will load cement for African ports on her return trip.
The Israeli-chartered Danish ship, the S.S. Mars, was scheduled to enter the Suez Canal Wednesday, bound for Haifa with 5, 000 tons of copra from the Philippines for Israel’s oil industry. The Norwegian S.S. Hubro, which arrived last week at Haifa, after passing through the Suez Canal, was scheduled to sail for Japan via the Suez Canal with 3, 700 tons of potash.
