The General Zionist members of the Israeli Parliament staged a “mute protest demonstration” against Premier David Ben Gurion last night by walking out demonstratively from the ball when the Premier rose to submit to the Parliament his war veterans bill. They returned after the Premier completed his introductory remarks.
A spokesman for the General Zionist deputies said that the group decided to leave the hall whenever Premier Ben Gurion appears before the Parliament. This decision, he stated, was taken in protest against Ben Gurion’s offending remark that the General Zionists in Israel do not love the Jewish State. This remark was made by the Premier in the course of a speech which he delivered in Parliament last week.
“We asked Mr. Ben Gurion to withdraw his remarks. He disregarded our request. We cannot, therefore, attend the session of the Parliament when he appears on the platform,” Dr. Peretz Bernstein, leader of the General Zionists, declared.
