The Israeli-West German economic talks, which began here yesterday and were continued today, have been suspended until the middle of next week.
A Government spokesman, asked at a news conference why the talks were taking place in phases, said this was being done for technical reasons. One, he said, was that State Secretary Rolf Lahr, head of the West German delegation to the talks, must go to Brussels. Another reason, he said, was to give the two delegations time to consult their governments.
The spokesman said the first phase was devoted to a general discussion of key issues. When the talks are resumed next week, they will probably complete consideration of the first phase and will not be lengthy. The talks are in line with a West German pledge last spring, during negotiations which led to West German recognition of Israel, to consider economic aid to Israel.
