The League for the Abolition of Religious Coercion declared at its second national conference here that the institution of civil marriage in Israel was essential for the encouragement of immigration from the Western countries. The League is a non-political body headed by academicians. Civil marriage and divorce are not permitted in Israel where such matters are regulated by the Chief Rabbinate in accordance with religious law.
