Israel’s information services in London came under fire yesterday from participants in a House of Commons press conference: sponsored by the Zionist Federation. The press conference was called to condemn the anti-Zionist motion at the United Nations General Assembly.

Baroness Gaitskell, widow of the late Hugh Gaitskell, the former leader of the British Labor Party, noted the highly professional manner in which Arab propaganda was conducted and termed Israelis as “bone stupid” when it comes to explaining themselves. “Why don’t they get professionals?” she asked. She said that the current anti-Zionist drive was motivated by old-fashioned anti-Semitism, especially in the Soviet Union.

Mrs. Winifred Ewing, an MP, stressed that her Scottish Nationalist Party was pro-Israel, declaring “I have been called a racist myself.” She deplored that Israel was allowing herself to be defeated in the information war, protesting; do not get any information that I request from the Israel Embassy in London.”

The anti-Zionist measure was attacked by Philip-Goodhart, MP, chairman of the Conservative Party defense committee, and Tom Dale, assistant to Liberal leader Jeremy Thorpe.
