Israel Air Force Jets attacked terrorist concentrations in southeastern Lebanon for 30 minutes this afternoon and returned safely to their bases, a military spokesman announced. The attack was not in response to any new terrorist activity emanating from Lebanon but apparently was in line with Israeli policy since the Maalot massacre, to strike at terrorist strongholds wherever possible, sources here said.
(Israel charged at the United Nations several days ago that two terrorist incursions this month — including the June 15 murder of three women at Kibbutz Shamir–confirmed a statement by Lebanese officials June 11 that “relations between the Lebanese authorities and the Palestinian terror organizations were at a peak of mutual understanding.” The charge was contained in a letter from Ambassador Jacob Doron, Acting Permanent Representative of Israel, to this month’s President of the Security Council. Doron said Israel was again calling the Council’s attention to “the fact that Lebanon continues to serve as a base for murder and sabotage activities against Israel and permits the continued existence of an independent regime, as it were, of the murder organisations which act with complete freedom in and from Lebanon.”)
