Israel Air Force jets blasted targets about 20 miles inside Egypt today and also raked Egyptian military positions in the central and southern sectors of the Suez Canal zone. According to a military spokesman the first of three attacks was launched at 11:10 a.m. local time at military installations east of Hilwan and in the El Manzala zone northeast of the Nile delta. Two further attacks in the afternoon struck at artillery and anti-aircraft gun emplacements in the canal zone. All planes returned safely from all missions, the spokesman said. An Israeli soldier was killed yesterday by Egyptian fire in the southern section of the canal zone. He was identified as Pvt. Meir Sith, 19, of Ramat Gan, whose father, Absalom Sith, is the Tel Aviv municipal psychologist. A military spokesman reported heavy artillery exchanges across the waterway during the past 24 hours. A bazooka shell was fired at an Israeli car in the Jordan Valley near Nahal Mehola yesterday. There were no casualties.
