Israeli jets continued to pound Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, a day after the group killed an Israeli soldier, the sixth casualty in two weeks. U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright blamed Hezbollah for the recent escalation of fighting in the Israeli occupied security zone in southern Lebanon and urged the Syrians to use its influence and restrain Hezbollah.
