Israeli Journalist Released from Spanish Jail; Was Held Three Years

An Israeli Journalist who has Just been released from a Spanish jail after three years, imprisonment told a press conference here today that Spain had become a major haven for former Nazis and Nazi collaborators of a dozen nationalities.

Zvi Aldouby, the journalist, was sentenced to nine years. imprisonment by a Spanish military court on charges of having tried to kidnap the former Belgian Nazi, Leon Degrelle. He was arrested at the Franco-Spanish border in August 1961, and charged with possession of guns and ammunition, Jacques Finsohn, a young French Jew, was arrested with him. The two were said to have been part of a Jewish underground movement organized to kidnap Degrelle and other former Nazis in the hope of tracing through them the whereabouts of Hitler’s personal aide, Margin Bormann.

The journalist said that his investigations had revealed that scores of former top Nazis were now living in Spain, and that former SS officers were serving in the Spanish Foreign Legion, He said that a special regiment was officered almost completely by former Iron Guard Rumanian: officers. He identified as prominent ex-collaborators living in Madrid Horia Sima, one of Rumania’s leading anti-Semites, as well as Ukrainian and Russian Nazi collaborators.
