Rumors cropped up again in Israeli newspapers yesterday that Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Gen. Yitzhak Rabin, will be named Minister of Education and Culture in the next Cabinet to be formed after the Oct. 28 election. There was no confirmation from any official sources.
Gen. Rabin, former Chief of Staff of Israel’s armed forces, is not a candidate for election. But Israeli law does not require a Cabinet minister to be a Member of Parliament. The incumbent Minister of Education, Zalman Aranne, announced some time ago that he would retire from public office.
