The Knesset last night passed a bill making it mandatory for Israel Government officials to give reasons–in writing, if requested–for rejecting an application or request of a citizen.
The new law, approved during the third reading of the measure, has only two exemptions. One is a situation involving state security. The other is one in which a person’s private or professional secrets are involved.
However, even in such cases, the applicant is given the right to appeal to the courts to determine whether such reasons, when offered in support of rejections by Government officials, are the real reasons.
