Israeli officials said they want to focus solely on security issues during current sessions of the Middle East peace summit being held near Washington. One Palestinian official at the summit called the latest Israeli stance “cheap blackmail.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for the focus on security after at least 64 Israelis were wounded when a Palestinian hurled two grenades into Beersheba’s central bus station. Two people were reported in serious condition, but most suffered only minor wounds or were treated for shock. The assailant was pounced on by bystanders and arrested.
