Responding to last night’s terrorist strikes from Lebanese soil, consisting of Katyusha rocket fire on the Baram Sasa area, Israeli planes attacked terrorist positions and bases in Lebanon this afternoon. The targets were in the neighborhood of A Zait village in the Hasabiya area, 11 kilometers (seven miles) north of the Israeli-Lebanese border. All planes returned safely.
Direct Israeli hits were observed. Defense Minister Moshe Dayan and Chief of Staff David Elazar warned recently that Israel would act to counter any fire from Lebanon if the Beirut government did not stifle the terrorists. Such an Israeli retaliation two weekends ago resulted in four days of fighting and a unanimous United Nations Security Council resolution calling on Israel to desist and withdraw.
