Israel Air Force jets staged two attacks this afternoon on two Egyptian SAM-2 anti-aircraft missile bases near Mansoura in the northern Nile delta and returned safely to their bases. The first attack took place shortly past noon and the second was launched about three hours later. In an earlier attack today, Israeli jets blasted Egyptian military targets in the central and southern sections of the Suez Canal zone. An Israeli soldier was wounded last night in a Syrian mortar attack on an Israeli position in the central Golan Heights. Israeli forces returned the fire. This morning an Israeli patrol came under fire from Jordan in the Beisan Valley and returned the fire. There were no Israeli casualties.
Security officials disclosed the capture of six Arab terrorists in an encounter with an Israeli patrol several days ago. The disclosure was made last night. The guerrillas admitted under questioning that they planned to commit sabotage in the Nablus area. Reports from Beirut today said Lebanese police are guarding American property there following four rocket and bomb attacks in 24 hours for which the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility. The targets were the John F. Kennedy Cultural Center, the American Life Insurance Co. and offices of American Airlines in downtown Beirut. Only minor damage was caused. The Palestine Higher Political Committee which represents most of the Palestinian guerrilla organizations denounced the attacks yesterday as “irresponsible acts.”
