Israeli police will not allow Israeli politicians to visit Jerusalem’s Temple Mount on Tisha B’Av. A group of right-wing Knesset members intended to visit the place as a demonstration of Israeli sovereignty over Judaism’s holiest site. A Muslim holy site, the Al-Aksa Mosque, now sits on the mount, and the Palestinians used the occasion of Ariel Sharon’s visit to the site in September 2000 to launch a new intifada.
