Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon called on the United Nations to use Syria’s desire to join the U.N. Security Council to pressure it to allow international representatives to visit Israelis kidnapped by Hezbollah in October. Sharon spoke by phone with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and asked that items linked to the kidnapping be transferred to Israel.
