Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon canceled cease-fire talks planned between Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat. Israeli government officials said Sharon took the step because Palestinian violence against Israelis had not stopped even though Arafat announced a cease-fire last week.
