Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon ordered government funding for a soccer stadium in an Israeli Arab town. Having already spent $3 million on the Sakhnin stadium, the government this year will provide another $500,000 to complete the project after the prime minister gave a green light for the funding Sunday.
The Galilee town’s soccer team, Bnei Sakhnin, won the 2004 national cup, a victory that focused attention on the economic difficulties of the Israeli Arab sector.
