Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon rebuffed a Cabinet member’s call to invite the Syrian leader to Israel. “Thirty years ago Sadat spoke of his desire for peace, and Begin responded with, ‘Come to Israel and we will negotiate,’ ” Infrastructure Minister Yosef Paritzky told Sharon during Sunday’s Cabinet session, referring to then-Egyptian President Anwar Sadat’s historic 1977 visit to Jerusalem, when Menachem Begin was Israel’s prime minister.
