Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suspended efforts to stop providing increased child allowances to large families after the Shas and United Torah Judaism parties threatened a coalition crisis. The two parties draw their following from the fervently Orthodox community, which is the prime beneficiary of the allowances.
