Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backed off from a plan to create a committee to examine draft exemptions for fervently Orthodox yeshiva students. His decision came after fervently Orthodox members of his coalition threatened to bring down the government over the issue. Meanwhile, the High Court of Justice convened to hear a petition asking that a limit be set on the number of military deferrals granted yeshiva students.
