Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a veiled assertion that the opposition Labor Party may be behind two break-ins at the Washington office of an American political consultant. Commenting on the break-ins, which took place within a week at the offices of pollster Stanley Greenberg, Netanyahu said he hoped “we are not witnessing an act of political provocation.” In both incidents, files relating to Israel’s election campaign were stolen from the offices of the pollster, who was hired to advise the Labor candidate for prime minister, Ehud Barak.
