Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak expects the Palestinian Authority to begin meeting its security obligations in September, including cracking down on terrorism and confiscating illegal weapons. After that, Israel will begin withdrawing from West Bank land in October. Barak’s interpretation of the land- for-security Wye accord elicited protests Monday from Palestinian officials, but support from the U.S. State Department.
