Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak is considering recognizing a U.N. Security Council resolution that recognizes the right of Palestinians to return to homes they abandoned during the 1948 War of Independence. According to Barak’s advisers, the prime minister believes the resolution does not hold Israel responsible for the refugee problem but allows for the return of some refugees for family reunification.
