Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak thanked American Jews for standing behind the Jewish state amid Palestinian violence. “We derive great strength from knowing that we in Israel are not alone,” Barak told thousands attending a solidarity rally in Chicago organized by the United Jewish Communities. The rally, which provoked a counterdemonstration by about 100 Arabs, was the high point of the UJC’s annual General Assembly.
