Nathan Rappoport, noted Israeli sculptor whose work immortalizing the heroism of the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto has been erected as a monument in Warsaw, was the winner here today of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts award for his “The Earth Is Given to Man” exhibited at the 155th annual exhibition of the Academy. The award carries a $500 prize.
Mr. Rappoport, who is now visiting the United States, held a successful exhibition of his works at the Jewish Museum in New York, and is now engaged in making busts of a number of prominent American personalities. The Organization of Polish Jews in the United States will commission him to make a bust of Vice President Richard Nixon as an expression of thanks for the interest which Mr. Nixon took in visiting the Warsaw Ghetto Memorial during his brief stay in Warsaw.
