Israeli social welfare organizations called on legislators to oppose the planned budget for next year, saying it short-changed needy sectors of society. The appeal coincided with the decision by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept the resignation of Finance Minister Ya’acov Ne’eman, who had charged that coalition politics were preventing the implementation of any meaningful economic policy. Netanyahu has decided to retain control over the Finance Ministry portfolio rather than appoint an immediate successor to Ne’eman.
