Israeli troops on duty in northern central Sinai began today to receive fresh water directly from El Arish water wells through a six-inch pipeline laid in record time in a blitz operation by the Israeli army and civil engineers. In 21 days, the two services placed the line from El Arish on the north Sinai shore to Bir Ghafgafa, about 60 miles.
A little ceremony was held as seven water hoses poured fresh water into the hot Sinai desert sand to mark the opening of the new pipeline.
