The Israeli vessel Galilah arrived today at the Turkish port of Alexandretta, near the Syrian border, to pick up a party of Jewish emigrants from Iran who had made a long overland journey via Turkey.
This is the first organized group of Persian immigrants to cross Turkey en route to Israel. Additional groups are expected within the next few months, but large-scale migration is not expected until spring when the emigrants are able to pass through the mountains separating Iran from Eastern Turkey.
Israel will purchase from Turkey 6,000 tons of salt, according to an announcement issued by the Turkish Trade Ministry. An agreement to this effect has reportedly been concluded between local exporters and an Israeli representative. Foodstuffs and raw materials lead the products which Israel is at present importing from Turkey. The Jewish State, in turn, is exporting to Turkey a variety of manufactured articles.
