An Israel spokesman charged today that the Egyptian action in filing a complaint with the United Nations Security Council against seizure of an Egyptian vessel in Israel territorial waters although Egypt was maintaining a blockade in defiance of the Security Council revealed “a contempt for the authority of the Council” and represented “an abuse of its processes.”
The Israeli said that the vessel, the Samir, had been sailing in Israel territorial waters at the time of her capture and was therefore subject to Israel maritime jurisdiction and action.
Observers here expressed the view that the latest Egyptian protest was another phase of the cold war waged by the Arab States against Israel. They pointed to other complaints made recently by Iraq of border violations by Israel to complaints by Syria on the Riley report and by seven Arab states on the ‘illegal’ sale of Arab private property, all designed to isolate Israel at the UN.
