The Israeli Air Force, it was disclosed today, is in possession of an operational two-seater trainer plane, “El Goumhuriyeh,” the pride of the Egyptian aircraft industry. The craft was found, heavily camouflaged, in the Sinai Desert near the Egyptian Army headquarters.
A member of an Israeli “booty squad” searching the Sinai Desert found the plane fueled up and ready to fly but for a damaged wheel. He replaced the damaged wheel with one taken from a Soviet-made plane nearby, damaged by the Israelis, covered the Egyptian insignia with the Israeli Air Force emblem, and flew the Egyptian ship to an Israeli base near Tel Aviv.
