Sen. George S. McGovern (D.S.D.) hopes the Israeli offer to enter a joint effort with neighboring states to attempt solutions of the Middle East economic problems “will be heeded.” In a statement made available yesterday, McGovern, a candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination, welcomed a regional economic development plan for the Middle East which was presented April 19 by Gideon Rafael, Israel Ambassador to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Santiago, Chile. “Israel is today providing technical assistance for forty-six nations, particularly agricultural assistance,” McGovern said. “Her technical assistance programs are widely considered to be very effective and are breaking ground for new understanding and friendship among the less-developed nations.”
