An Egyptian force described as a platoon in strength attacked an Israel outpost in the Kissufim area, along the Gaza strip border today but was repulsed by Israel defenders. The attackers were supported by heavy fire from Egyptian positions on the other side of the frontier. There were no Israel casualties.
Egyptian planes continued reconnaissance flights over Israel territory today, an Israel military spokesman announced. Egyptian jet fighters yesterday were seen over Nitzana and over the Patish and Gevulot settlements.
Israel filed a complaint with the Israel-Egypt Mixed Armistice Commission following the Egyptian attack yesterday on Nirim, near the Gaza strip. Meanwhile, United Nations truce observers, investigating last Saturday’s Egyptian attack on an Israel outpost near Nirim, found tracks of the invading forces coming across the armistice line into Israel territory. Quantities of spent Egyptian ammunition were also found. The Egyptians were described Monday as still continuing to hold a belt of Israel territory in the Nitzana area where they have entrenched themselves.
