Israeli representatives overseas were warned today by intelligence authorities to exercise particular care to protect themselves from terrorist attacks during the coming holiday season. They were advised to be especially alert for gift-wrapped Chanuka packages that could be booby-trapped.
A letter bomb was found yesterday in Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren’s mailbox by his daughter and was rendered harmless by Tel Aviv police. The girl became suspicious of a bulky brown envelope and called police who found it to contain explosives and a detonator. Police investigating the incident believe that it may not have come from Arab terrorists but from Orthodox extremists incensed against Rabbi Goren’s ruling in the Langer case. The Chief Rabbi has reportedly received threatening letters recently believed to have been sent by religious zealots.
