Israel’s ally in southern Lebanon arrested a Shi’ite cleric suspected of planning to help kidnap an Israeli soldier who would be used as a bargaining chip for the return of Hezbollah prisoners. The Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported that after the South Lebanon Army arrested Sheik Abbas Mohassan Ali Fadlallah, he confessed the plan to Israeli interrogators.
