Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath yesterday pledged full cooperation to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and promised to make available the benefits of Israel’s experience “to all interested countries, both in the Middle East and in other parts of the world.” The Jewish state was voted to active membership in the F.A.O. last week.
“As a member of the F.A.O., Israel will now exercise its right to take an active part in the planning and execution of all schemes for that area undertaken under the auspices of the F.A.O.,” the Ambassador said in an address to the U.N. group. “My country desires economic and social progress in the entire region, both for its own welfare and for that of its neighbors.”
“Israel will seek the F.A.O.’s advice and cooperation in carrying out the country’s huge development programs, particularly in the fields of irrigation and soil conservation, especially in the Negev,” he stated. He pointed out that owing to the rapid growth of Israel, the new state is interested in international food marketing arrangements.
