Israel’s Cabinet appears likely to approve a further West Bank redeployment on Wednesday after Yasser Arafat backed off a threat of violence, political observers said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as “positive” a statement from the Palestinian leader that any problems in the final-status negotiations “will be resolved through amicable and peaceful ways.” The premier had threatened to postpone the redeployment, slated for this week under the terms of the Wye agreement, before Arafat issued the retraction.
