Israel’s Cabinet approved a revised version of Ariel Sharon’s Gaza withdrawal plan. Sunday’s 14-7 vote came after days of political wrangling over the plan. The plan was revised in recent days so that the Cabinet could approve a withdrawal in principle without voting on actually dismantling any Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip or West Bank. Immediately after the vote, Israeli Cabinet minister Ehud Olmert said he would order the Israel Lands Authority to freeze any new requests for building in the Gaza Strip.
